Maui : First Big Swell of the Season

Paul & I arrived in Hawaii last week greeted by grey skies and rain in Kahului – not your usual welcome to Maui! Despite the British feel to the weather, we actually picked the perfect week to arrive here with a huge swell that hit the island on the weekend. Apparently those ‘in the know’ were heard to say that it was the biggest swell that people here have seen for the month of September in many, many years. Let’s hope that’s a good start for bigger and better things to come this winter!

Saturday was the first day of the swell which was a bit gnarly and stormy and Ho’okipa was near to being closed out. For the first day, only handful of sailors went out including Jason Polakow, Bernd Roediger, Levi Siver, Kai Lenny, Michi Schweiger & Morgan Noireaux.

We’re in Maui for a while, so stay tuned to the blog for some regular updates, photos and hopefully we can twist some arms while we’re here for some more interviews! 😀

There’s another swell coming this weekend, possibly not as big and maybe not too windy either, but the weather forecast here is always all over the place as it’s so changeable on Maui so we’ll see what happens on the weekend!

If you’ve not seen our images on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/fishbowldiaries), here are a few photos from Saturday and Sunday…
